The Lapis sweater is inspired by Kek Lapis, a traditional spiced layer cake.  

Knitted from the bottom with provisional cast-on, the chevron lace and Stockinette stitch patterns are worked in the round to the underarm. Front and back are worked flat separately before being joined at the shoulders.
